in my previous life

I gardened.

It was my passion.
And kind of an obsession.
And very much a stress release.

This was my space.

It started as a mud pit.
And became my sanctuary.

I cried when I left. And for five years I've had nowhere to plant. To get my hands dirty. To de-stress. To sit and dream.

A few years later Naomi entered my life. And brought with her great joy. She filled that void. She kept me very busy. Our days have been filled with sunshine and goodness. But I have missed gardening. Perhaps one day there will be a time and place again.

For now,

my Mark built me these lovely garden boxes.

My lovely daughters helped me plant them.
(did you see the photos? They are cute. I laughed out loud at how much they were complicating the project!)

And while they don't quite compare to the masterpieces Mark and I once built together, they are an excellent opportunity for all of us to get our hands dirty and grow together.

Many of my favorite veggies won't grow here, so we settled on:

tomatoes, eggplant, mixed leaf lettuce, green beans, parsley, lavender, rosemary, dill, basil and marigolds (marigolds? yes, to discourage the bugs... and because my mother gave us marigolds to plant in our little individual garden plots as children. Perhaps that's where my love for gardening began. Happy memory. I want my girls to have happy gardening memories. Maybe I should be a little nicer when they dig up my plants or go wandering away with the marigolds. Hmmm. I'll work on that.)

What a beautiful place. The swampy house must have been such a difficult transition! You certainly have a talent for transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. I'm so glad that you have a place to garden again and that you have such great little helpers (I hear you there!) :)

Hey!
I remember that place! You guys had a great looking yard! I can only imagine Naomi and Kalea running rampant through your Eugene back yard! That would be fun to see! Glad you are doing well, your kiddos are adorable!
