Byodo-in Temple

One of our favorite places is the beautiful Japanese Byodo-in Temple nestled at the bottom of the magnificent Ko'olau mountain range.

The Temple was built entirely without the use of nails and is a smaller scale replica of a temple in Uji Japan that was constructed over 900 years ago. It represents the mythical phoenix arising from the ashes to reflect the promises of hope and renewal. There are two phoenix birds perched on both ends of the roof with their wings spread ready to fly away. It is very serene and peaceful here.

Naomi had a great time exploring, waving to new friends (she always comes away with at least ten new friends and one old asian man having given her a red candy out of his pocket), tasting the rocks and plant-life, watching the swans, peacocks and pigeons, and trying to swim in the pond with the huge koi fish.

If you haven't figured it out by now, I have an obsession. Three, actually. 1: my daughter. 2: my daughter's eyes. 3: taking photos of those eyes. So if you weren't looking for photos of Naomi, you are in the wrong place because I just posted a bucket-full. enjoy.
